Hey there, I’m Joey Coppedge. I’m a Nutrition Coach and intended parent living in Los Angeles, CA.

“People aren’t resistant to change, they’re resistant to BEING changed.”

- Joey Coppedge

I’m Joey Coppedge, a nutritionist and behavior change specialist. I approach coaching by listening to your needs and what you want to accomplish, learning how you live, discovering what's really important to you, and collaborating to plan measurable nutrition & lifestyle goals. Then I coach you through the process, helping with the inevitable roadblocks along the way to success.

People aren’t resistant to change, they’re resistant to BEING changed. Guided by behavior change psychology, I use proven strategies and motivational interviewing methods to reprogram automatic, yet unhelpful systems into functional, healthy behaviors. If you have a challenging relationship with food, I want to help you reframe what it means to nourish your body. If food is an important part of your culture, religion, or who you are, I want to help you celebrate how it represents you.

My mission is to reprogram modern attitudes and beliefs about diet/lifestyle to help regular folks eat normal diets so they can feel good mentally and physically (w/o dieting). Here’s how:

  • Address anti-fat bias to correct the misinformation that motivates disordered eating behaviors.

  • Teach about how our overall health (not just our weight) is affected by the relationship between nutrients, food, diet, and lifestyle.

  • Promote joy in eating, cooking, and movement.

Much love,

Joey

Why “Normal”?

Much of how we eat and live today is NOT normal. Think: eating quickly while distracted, skipping meals, restricting, binging, being so busy we forget to eat. We’ve learned to ignore our normal hunger and fullness cues, fear foods that make us feel good mentally and physically, and disconnect with foods that connect us to our cultures.

But it’s NORMAL to feel hungry; to eat until full; to eat carbs and fat; to indulge. It’s NORMAL for some to be fat and some to be skinny; to sleep enough; to slow down and focus on a meal; to ask for what you want and need; to find joy in movement.

When we aren’t eating and living in NORMAL ways our eating behaviors become dysfunctional and we sow distrust (and resentment) toward our own bodies. All of this culminates into a culture of dieting that breeds fear and shame causing most of us to dissociate with food altogether.

So, my mission is to encourage diet & lifestyle behaviors that make folks feel good mentally and physically so they can live happy and satisfying diet-free lives.
